Pumpkin Carvings

Happy Halloween Everyone! Just a quick post with two more pumpkin carvings. I figured I better get my act together and post pumpkin carvings as today is Halloween. October just flew by.

Rob carved this “Pac-o-latern”:

Pumpkin

I wanted to do some sort of political pumpkin but I knew that would probably just result in someone stealing or smashing my pumpkin. Instead I did a peace sign made of bones. It was hard to get a good picture of this pumpkin since there is so much open space and the light just pours out of the pumpkin. It looks much more defined in person.

Expressly Leslie Vegetarian Cafe, Algonquin, IL

What could make shopping at Joe Caputo’s in Algonquin even better? How about a vegetarian cafe inside that is very vegan-friendly? Yes, it’s true! Tasty vegan dining options can be found at Expressly Leslie. The cafe is located at the very front of the store, across from the checkout lanes. There are several tables so you can eat in or get your food to go. The owner, Leslie, is very personable and told us about how she decided to open up her own place.

Did I mention that the cafe serves Middle Eastern food? Rob and I opted for the Sampler Plate. I wanted to make sure that nothing contained yogurt and she assured me that she used tahini, not yogurt.  The plate had falafel, hummos, baba ganoosh, tabouli, reb cabbage slaw, dill potato salad, Morrocan carrot salad, spicy olive salad, Morrocan eggplant salad, and one or two other salads. It was delicious and we also got the z’hug which is a Yemenite hot sauce made with jalapenos. It was hot and oh so good. Rob and I love spicy and hot food. A sampler plate will run you just under $10, including tax.

Other options on the menu include a falafel sandwich, Moroccan eggplant sandwich, soup of the day, ribbon fries, or you can buy some items by the pint and half-pint.

I would definitely recommend trying Expressly Leslie. Go there for good service, yummy food, and a chance to try something new (I really liked the red cabbage slaw). Be sure to check out the article in the Daily Herald as well.  Joe Caputo’s and Expressly Leslie are located at 100 S. Randall Rd. in Algonquin, IL (on the northwest corner of Algonquin Rd. and Randall Rd).
